Pies look for back-to-back wins

WERRIMULL coach Anna Thomson says her A Grade team have returned to top form after a convincing win against second-placed Bambill last weekend.

The third-placed Pies are feeling energised following the 20-goal victory against the Saints, who previously defeated them by 25 goals.

Thomson said it was a “great feeling” to get the win, which edged them closer to the top two.

Werrimull are now only six points behind Bambill and eight behind top-placed Nangiloc.

“We had a bit of a rocky start with people coming in and out and finding our groove,” she said.

“It’s nice to see we have got our groove together come the end of the season.

Thomson said she believed the team had played together “the best we have ever played”.

“Of course, Bambill were missing Tessa (Houkamau), which had a huge impact on their team, but it would be exciting to see the match when they do have her back and see how close it would be,” she said.

Coming up against fourth-placed Gol Gol on Saturday, Werrimull will be hitting the court with a different line-up to last week’s team.

“I think it will definitely be a close one,” Thomson said.

“We have a few injured girls, some recovering from injuries, just getting ready for finals.

“Unfortunately we are not going in with our strongest side.”

Thomson said that despite missing some key players, the Pies hoped to be well-serviced by Rachel Thomas, Cassie Morris, Olivia Putland and Aislinn Campbell.

“Rach had an absolutely amazing game last week,” she said.

“I’m hoping she will back it up again.”

In the day’s other games, Nangiloc play Meringur at home and bottom-placed Cardross meet Bambill at Cardross Oval.

All games begin at noon.
