Nangiloc back on top

NANGILOC have returned to the top of the Millewa Netball Association ladder following their 11-goal win over fourth-placed Gol Gol on Saturday.

With two rounds remaining, the Demons have stepped back into first place as Bambill suffered a surprising 20-goal defeat at the hands of Werrimull.

Nangiloc and Bambill are in the box seat to face each other in the qualifying final, and like Sunraysia counterparts  Wentworth and Mildura, they are set to face each other in the final round.

Shooter Tess Thompson was on fire for the Demons during their 49-38 victory over the Hawks at Alcheringa Oval, with co-coach Ginine Sluiter and Chloe Nelson also impressing during the win.

Hawks defenders Amy Hunt and Brooke Oosting did their best to keep their side in the game, while attacker Chelsea  Henderson also received a nod for her efforts.

Werrimull’s 48-28 win over Bambill still gives them hope of moving into the top two, however, they will be reliant on the  Saints dropping both of their matches to come.

Rachel Thomas was named the Magpies’ best in a strong performance, with playing coach Anna Marshall and Aislinn Campbell also impressing.

While it was an off day for Bambill, conceding just their second loss of the campaign, Ebony Roberts, coach Samantha  Garraway and Roanna Gathercole played solid games.

Meanwhile, Meringur’s sliver of hope for finals qualification remains intact following a thrilling one-goal win over  Cardross 41-40.

The Roos are still six points and percentage behind Gol Gol but an upset win over Nangiloc next week, combined with a  Hawks defeat to Werrimull, would mean they would play off against each other in the final round for fourth position.

Teagan Pettigrew, Kimberley Harlock and Jordan Kerr were the top performers for the victors, while Montanna Ezzey, Emily  Gleeson and Melissa Kennedy played strong games for the Lions.
