Demons’ off-court fun a boost, says Leng

A strong development of off-court friendships has benefited Mildura’s A Grade girls this year, according to star midcourter Ally Leng.

Leng, this week’s Netballer of the Round, said a big highlight of her season with the Dees was the team’s ability to have fun together.

She said it was important to focus on positivity more than winning.

“This season so far has been super fun and all the girls have been great,” she said.

“We don’t just have the mentality to actually win, but to have fun and be together. It has been great having that side to it.”

Leng said the girls grew closer when they welcomed a new face to the team this year.

“Having that new asset of Ellie Vincent coming into the team has been great,” she said.

“There is new energy and having her come in has brought the rest of the team together and we have this nice little bond.”

Mildura have held on strongly to their second placing, only being defeated by Wentworth.

Leng said it was great that every team was a challenge.

“Everyone has brought their A-game this season which has been great,” she said.

“Having that extra challenge pushes the rest of the teams to really work hard, especially coming so close to finals.”

Leng said she hoped the team could continue their positive run as finals drew near.

“Just because finals do get so intense, (I hope we can) maintain that fun energy to make sure we all have each other’s backs and keep playing our hearts out for each other, not just for individual purposes,” she said.
