Hard work delivers top spot to Bambill

HARD work has been credited as the key to Bambill’s climb to the top of the Millewa A Grade ladder.

Bambill jumped from second to first last weekend after beating previous ladder leaders Nangiloc.

Coach Samantha Garraway said it was a good feeling to be sitting at the top after the close game.

“We were chasing each other’s tails,” she said.

“They were up, we were up.

“It was, for a bit, goal for goal.

“It was definitely a hard hit-out.”

Garraway said the reigning premiers had put in the hard work again this year and would continue to push themselves as the season progressed.

The Saints now sit just above the Demons on the ladder due to a draw against Gol Gol in round 1.

They face Gol Gol for the third time this weekend and Garraway said the team were obviously aiming to keep the top spot.

“A win is always the goal but we still have lots of work to do as a team,” she said.

“We hope to put a lot of things we have been working on into play and see how it goes on the day.”

Garraway said she had been enjoying how even the competition had been this season.

“I wouldn’t say any game has been easy,” she said.

“It has been a good competition this year.”

Bambill’s best this year have been Garraway, Kaylie Monaghan and Tess Houkamau.

The Saints face fourth-placed Hawks at Alcheringa Oval at noon on Saturday.

Meanwhile, at Lake Cullulleraine third-placed Werrimull take on fifth-placed Meringur and at Nangiloc Oval the Demons will face bottom-placed Cardross.

Nangiloc have the potential to reclaim the top spot if they defeat Cardross and Gol Gol beat Bambill.
