ROBINVALE Euston are heading into the weekend full of confidence, despite an unsettled start to their season.
Coach Hayley Siddons said the girls were “excited” to face Imperials at home this weekend, after a three-goal win against Red Cliffs last week.
“We only won the one game last year so to win two is a bonus, especially when we have had such an unsettled side,” she said.
“(We haven’t) been able to get the same seven on the court two weeks in a row.”
Siddons said the Eagles had many players out or unavailable, including four or five with injuries.
She said this weekend the team would have their 26th player take the court for the team.
“We have had a few (girls away at university) coming to fill in and last week we had a few away at boarding school that are back again this week,” she said.
“We have lots of girls filling in but none that can play every week, so it has been a challenge, but it is very exciting to have a few girls that have played their junior years here back helping out.”
Siddons said the girls were getting more confident every week.
“Last time we played Imps, we were again just trying some new players through the team and we had a couple of quarters where we kept up with them so we are going in with a lot of confidence this time,” she said.
“It should be a really good match, I am hoping.
“We have quite a young side and are growing in confidence each week, it is great to see them developing as the season goes.”
Robinvale Euston are currently sitting in eighth place, just behind Imperials.
Both the team’s wins have been against Red Cliffs.
Imperials have defeated the Eagles and fourth-placed Merbein but drew with Red Cliffs.
A win for Robinvale Euston would see them jump Imps on the ladder.
In the day’s other games, second-placed Mildura will take on fourth-placed Merbein at Brian Weightman Oval.
Merbein are sitting just ahead of Irymple and will be looking for another win to further solidify their top-four placing.
At the same time, the Swallows will be looking to leap ahead of the Pies as they face sixth-placed Ouyen United at Blackburn Park.
The Kangas have recovered well from a slow season start, leaping from the bottom of the ladder to their current position.
They will be pushing hard to secure themselves another win and catch up to Merbein and Irymple.
Top dogs Wentworth will be against South Mildura, who have been sitting comfortably in third.
Last time the pair met, the Roos defeated the Bulldogs by 58 goals.
Red Cliffs have the bye.
