Zadow stands tall in defence

AVA Zadow has been one of the standouts this season in Mildura’s A Grade netball team.

Standing tall at goal defence, the strongly built 18-year-old has shown she reads the game well with her interceptions and passing ability.

Zadow starred alongside fellow young gun Ally Leng in the Dees’ 32-goal win against Irymple on Saturday.

It was the seventh time in nine games this season that Zadow has been named among her team’s best players.

The win kept the Dees in second spot with an 8-1 record.

Their only defeat came against the competition’s powerhouse and defending premiers, Wentworth, in round 9.

Zadow said the Dees had learnt some valuable lessons against the Roos.

“It highlighted the areas we need to work on, but the loss didn’t discourage us in any way,” she said.

“We know we have to work on our defence up the court and get better structured so we don’t overwork.”

Zadow, who is in Year 12 at St Joseph’s College, is focusing on netball this year after previously showing great potential on the basketball court with Mildura Heat and in the ruck for Bendigo Pioneers.

“I want to enjoy playing netball, go to 18ths (parties) and all that kind of stuff, and not put too much pressure on myself in my last year of school,” she said.

*** As the SFNL netballer of the round, Zadow receives $100 courtesy of Mildura Golf Resort and Fairways Bistro.
