Kangas aim to ‘buckle down’

OUYEN United will be on the hunt for another win in the SFNL A Grade netball this weekend to try to keep their finals hopes alive.

Coming into last round 0-4, along with one draw with fourth-placed South Mildura, Ouyen United were relieved to secure their first win against Robinvale Euston last weekend.

On Saturday, the Kangas face Red Cliffs at home in a round 8 clash.

The bottom-placed Tigers are yet to secure a win, but drew with Imperials in round 1.

The round 7 Netballer of the Round, Ellen Morrish, said she believed the Kangas had some winnable games coming up and they needed to “buckle down” if they wanted to make finals again.

“They will be some tough games, but I think they are definitely winnable,” she said.

“We just need to make sure we are treasuring the ball and doing the little things right, getting our fundamentals right, that is what will help us get over the line.”

Morrish said the team were still figuring out combinations but were hopeful they would have some consistency soon.

Red Cliffs coach Chantal Allford spoke to Sunraysia Daily after Saturday’s loss to unbeaten Mildura and said she thought her girls were getting better with every week.

A win from Red Cliffs on Saturday would help the Tigers edge closer to Ouyen United and possibly overtake Robinvale Euston, who will face South Mildura this weekend at MSP.

The Bulldogs have had a decent start to the season, securing three wins, two losses and a draw.

They are now placed only slightly behind Irymple on the ladder.

Robinvale Euston have only defeated Red Cliffs but have had strong performances against their opponents.

At Kenny Park, Merbein will face almost unstoppable Wentworth.

The Roos remain undefeated this season, holding their top-of-the-ladder position strongly, with over double of second-placed Mildura’s percentage.

Merbein sit in fifth, with three wins and losses.

In the day’s final game, Mildura will look to continue their winning streak to keep on the toes of Wentworth as they face sixth-placed Imperials at Brian Weightman Oval.

Imps haven’t had a win since round 2 and will eager to jump a position on the ladder.

Third-placed Irymple has the bye.
