NANGILOC’s A Grade netballers have cemented themselves as the team to beat this season, defeating Werrimull 46-37.
The Demons and the Pies faced off at Lake Cullulleraine on Saturday, meeting for the first time since Werrimull was knocked out of the 2022 finals in straight sets.
Werrimull were looking for redemption with an early win against their long-time rivals, but it was Nangiloc who came out ahead.
Nangiloc are now the only team to have racked up two wins this season, having defeated Cardross in round 1.
Best on court were Werrimull’s Krisanda Mole and Nangiloc’s co-coach Tamara Loveridge.
This week Gol Gol will face the Dees, looking for a win after a round 1 draw with Bambill and a win on Saturday against Cardross.
The Saturday game, hosted by the Lions, was close with Cardross leading Gol Gol, 27-26 at three-quarter time.
However, Cardy were unable to maintain their advantage, falling behind Golly for a 34-31 loss at the final siren.
Best players were Gol Gol’s Amy Hunt and Cardross’s Emily Gleeson.
Bambill are sitting second with one win and a draw, after defeating Meringur on Saturday.
The score was close at the start of the game with Bambill only leading by one-goal.
During the first quarter, Meringur shooter Jordan Kerr had scored six goals out of Meringur’s seven and Saints shooter Ebony Roberts and goal attack Tess Houkamau had scored four each to take Bambill’s score to eight.
Bambill were able to get away as the game progressed, finishing with a score of 36 to 28.
Bambill’s ladder advantage comes from their eight-goal winning margin, which was five goals higher than now third-placed Gol Gol’s.
Meringur and Cardross are both yet to get a win, but this week’s match between the two will decide who gets an advantage.
Bambill’s best at the weekend was Tess Houkamau and Meringur were led by coach Maddy McPhee.
