Only way is up for Eagles

ROBINVALE EUSTON

COACH: Hayley Siddons

ARRIVALS: Mia Doherty

DEPARTURES: Shakira Hingano

ROBINVALE Euston’s new netball coach Hayley Siddons is confident an attitude change will help the team secure more wins this season.

The Eagles finished last year at the bottom of the ladder, after only winning one game, in round 13 against Red Cliffs.

This year, the team is returning under Siddons, who is back after 20 years at the Central Murray League.

Siddons will travel from Swan Hill to coach the side.

The majority of Robinvale Euston’s A Grade team has remained, but final players lists are still being locked in.

Shakira Hingano, who is out due to a pregnancy, is a confirmed loss for the side, while Mia Doherty will bolster the team’s ranks as a new addition.

Siddons said adjusting mindsets and continuing to push from behind was a key area the team was working on.

She said in last year’s games, the girls lost by mostly small margins.

“When you are three goals down, it’s about believing that that is only a few centre passes,” she said.

“In every single one of those games, that they lost by a small margin, they won or stayed with the opposition for at least one of those quarters.

“We definitely will be expecting that some of those closer games we would be winning this year.”

Siddons said the team had lost several tall players over the past few years so it was important to target combative strategies such as ball speed.

“Another thing we are working on is getting a bit tougher as when you are small and short, you have to be strong, attitude-wise,” she said.

Siddons said she expected the younger players to still be developing and she was looking forward to working with them and seeing their progress this year.
