New faces at Cardross

CARDROSS

COACH: Ebony Greenhill & Darcie Gray

ARRIVALS: Mel Kennedy, Corinne Best, Pippa Gray, Jayda McDermott

DEPARTURES: Tamara Hamence, Annikah Kirk

CARDROSS co-coaches Ebony Greenhill and Darcie Gray are hoping they can use their expertise on both ends of the court to help lead the A Grade team to a grand final this season.

Cardross’ season ended last year after a finals loss to premiership winners Bambill.

Returning this year without players Tamara Hamence and Annikah Kirk, Cardross have recruited some new players to fill the gaps.

“We have quite a few new players this season, which will bring some new experience and structure,” Greenhill said.

Gray will be sidelined for the start of the season due to injury, but is hopeful to make a return later in the season.

Greenhill said they were both confident in the new mix of players and were looking forward to seeing how the team play together.

She said she had high hopes for the season.

“Everyone is hopeful they make it to finals, but we are hopeful we can make it one step more into the grand final,” she said.

“It’s definitely going to be a new season this year with many changes throughout our club and others. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top this year.”

Greenhill said her experience in attack and Gray’s experience in defence would allow them to utilise their individual skills to develop those areas of the team as needed.

“We will definitely have the added benefits of getting both views of the game (from a playing and observing coach),” she said.

“It’s also a bonus with (Gray) coming from the defence end, so Darcie knows how she would like things to run at that end and myself from the attack.”

Greenhill said the team had been building discipline but also had been spending time enjoying training and being together as a club.

“We are trying to change the vibe around the club so everyone is involved with each other,” she said.

“Cardross as a club has been doing both joint and separate preseason (trainings) to make the club whole.”
