Fitness focus for Bambill netballers

BAMBILL’S A Grade netball team hopes to bring the heat again this year and earn another premiership win.

Bambill defeated Nangiloc at last year’s deciding match, following a third-place finish at the end of the home-and-away rounds.

The team went from strength to strength during the finals, defeating powerhouse Werrimull in the preliminary final, before their first victory for the year over Nangiloc to take home the flag.

Co-ordinator Ebony Roberts said this year there had been a few players in and out, but the majority of the A Grade side remained the same.

“(Some players have left) in a few of the lower grades, but the higher grades are fairly similar,” she said.

Roberts said the team was still running through trials and determining final team selections, but coaches had been locked in.

She said Samantha Garraway had been selected as the A Grade coach and Jane Boulton as the B Grade coach.

At preseason training at their home ground at Mildura Senior College, Bambill has had strong numbers starting to come through.

Roberts said players had been mostly focusing on fitness, ready for the season to begin.

“We actually got Christie from Fast Feet Netball to come in and run her program, we worked on footwork and done a lot of running,” she said.

“We are just trying to get fit and then we will start on the netball skills.”

Roberts said it would be great for the team to take home another grand final win this year, but knew they would have to work for it.

“It would be nice, but we will have to see how we go,” she said.

Bambill take on Gol Gol under lights for Round 1 on Friday, April 21.
