Bulldogs v Kangas expected to be close

SOUTH Mildura aim for redemption as they take on Ouyen United in tomorrow’s elimination final.

The third and fourth placed teams will fight it out on the court tomorrow to decide who will play off against Saturday’s losing team for a chance at the grand final.

Ouyen United, who sat in third, have defeated South Mildura twice this season, the last being by only one point in round 16.

Playing coach Georgia Chase said the Bulldogs were looking forward to getting an opportunity to play against the Kangas again.

She said her team was “definitely up for some redemption”, after losing to the side by one point in the 2019 semi-finals.

“I feel like it really is anyone’s game, my girls are really hungry to finally get that win,” she said.

“They beat us by three at the start of the season, and it comes down to the last minutes every time that we play them so it will be a really tough game.”

Chase said the team’s 51-46 win against Merbein last week was a “good confidence boost”.

“Going into finals, we had a tough trot home against Wentworth, Ouyen and Mildura, but that last win has put our head where it needs to be coming into Sunday’s game.”

After dropping back to fifth in the middle of the season, South reclaimed their fourth spot, firing back harder in the second round.

Chase said it was the team’s goal to make finals, and they were happy to have done that.

“We were a bit nervous throughout the middle of the year but we have pushed on through and we are a whole brand new side,” she said.

After constant player inconsistencies this season, Ouyen United regained two valuable players last week, in Esther Manly and Tsharni Burns, but coach Kyra Nathan said the Kanga’s had an “up and down week” this week.

“We have had some niggling injuries and sickness but hopefully by Saturday we are all good to go,” she said.

“I think training will be good to get the team back together and work out how we are going to strategise and get on top of South.”

Nathan said her side was missing three of the team’s top seven players last time the two teams met, but stated the players had since returned.

“That will be a massive boost for us, (having) players that we are used to playing with,” she said.

“We will settle back into our side and hopefully it all comes together.”
