Netballer’s gritty resolve rewarded at last

DESPITE 11 straight losses for her team this season, Robinvale Euston player Isabelle Giofrelle said she draws her motivation from her team’s competitiveness.

She shone on the court during round 13, where her team was able to secure their first win of the season against Red Cliffs.

Giofrelle said she had maintained motivation this season as the side always played competitively and put up a tough fight against their rivals.

“We just try and reassure ourselves that when we are at our best, we can push any team,” she said.

“So just trying to play our own game and stick to what we know and not try and do anything fancy or different.

“Just have the faith in ourselves that we can push the top teams.”

Giofrelle said it was important to stand tall against the team’s opponents, whether they were winning or not.

“We had a handful of games that have been under 10 goals,” she said.

“We have been pretty competitive, but finishing off games and efforts is something we can work on.

“We might not win every game, but just to try and push teams and not just be walked over each week, basically is a big thing for us.”

Giofrelle, who has been playing netball since around age six and is now 21, said she had been with Robinvale Euston “forever”.

“It has been good to start from juniors and come all the way through the ranks,” she said.

“I started A Grade in 2017.”

Also a part of the club is Giofrelle’s sister Georgia, who plays as a shooter.

“It is so good having her (on the team),” Giofrelle said.

“I just know she’s always there if I need to throw it.”

Giofrelle said her main focus was to try to control the game.

“I think as a centre player, I try to control the flow of the game and reassure the girls that when they get the ball use it wisely, don’t panic be calm,” she said.

“Just controlling the flow of the court is one thing I really try to focus on.”
