Gippsland recruit making big impact at South

AMY Lutze is relishing her return to A-grade netball after having a few years off to start a family with husband Matt.

Both A-grade netballer Amy and senior footballer Matt moved to Mildura during the COVID pandemic.

They swapped their Sale City colours in Gippsland for the navy and white at South Mildura Sporting Club.

Matt’s team has gone winless through the opening 10 rounds, but Amy’s is sitting in fourth spot in the A-grade competition.

The tall goal attack played a key role in the Bulldogs’ 40-36 win against fifth-placed Irymple at the weekend.

“As a team, we’re definitely improving each week,” Amy said.

“We need to keep working on our skills and focus on getting the wins in the last half of the season. We can turn around the games we lost earlier in the year.

“It’s just a case of everyone doing their job individually, and good things will happen for us.”

The Bulldogs play sixth-placed Imperials this weekend in important clash for both teams.

“We beat Imperials the last time we played them. They play very similar to what we do, but I think we match up pretty well against them,” Amy said.

“We’re aiming to make the finals, and anything can happen come finals time.

“I know there are players who won’t be there for all teams, and it’s a different atmosphere in the finals.”

She said she was enjoying her return to top-grade netball.

“The last season I’d played was in 2018. I’ve had a few years off having kids, but it’s great to be back playing now,” Amy said.

“South Mildura is a great club to be part of. Everyone has been super welcoming to Matty and I.”

As the SFNL netballer of the round, Amy receives $100 courtesy of Mildura Golf Resort and Sunraysia Daily.
