Nangiloc opens new netball court

NANGILOC might be a considered small town but they just opened a huge asset.

The Nangiloc Netball Club set foot on their new, Netball-Australia-standard, netball court this weekend.

And netball coordinator Kristi Goldup told Sunraysia Daily the club now has everything they need.

Women and girls were “in awe” of the facility, fitted out with competition grade lighting, painted lines, bench seating “all around”, and a brand new score board, goal posts and pads.

“We’ve never had a court like that before,” Goldup said.

“It felt especially special having important community members come and watch a few games at the opening.

“Even our opposition were really surprised with how good the court was, everyone was really impressed with what’s been done there.”

Asked why these kinds of structures were important for communities like Nangiloc, Goldup said it was more than just a win for the club.

“It’s not just for us, it’s about what we can offer the community … we’ll use it in winter, but primary school kids didn’t even have a netball court,” she said.

“The best thing is the school will now be able to come down and use it, anyone can come down, the lights are done by token machine.

“We haven’t had anything big like this for our community in something like 20 years.”

Goldup said it was a “huge” development for the “little” town.

“There are some other things around the club that need work so hopefully we can get a few more things happening for our community, out this way,” she said.
