Charity netball weekend aims to help kids

LIFESTYLE Plus is preparing to host a charity netball weekend to raise funds for children’s charity Variety.

Organiser Andrew Farlie said it was the first time Lifestyle Plus had hosted a charity netball weekend.

Mr Farlie said the idea came about because of the Variety 4WD Adventure, which is leaving from Mildura in May.

“Part of that is trying to raise some money, so we’re putting on a two-day netball weekend with four different grades,” he said.

The grades include under 17 girls, open ladies, over 40s ladies and mixed netball.

Mr Farlie said Variety was a worthwhile charity that helped children who were facing challenges such as sickness or disadvantage.

“There’s a lot of things that happen in the community and some (children) are not so well off and need a bit of a hand,” he said.

“We’re just trying to help out a bit with that. Obviously, with the bushfires, there are communities that have lost a fair bit of stuff.”

Mr Farlie said so far there had been interest from the public in supporting the charity netball weekend.

“I think the mixed competition is pretty close to being full, the ladies’ is getting there but we probably need a few more under 17s,” he said.

“It should be good — all the staff, the umpires and everyone are all donating their time to be part of it — so we’re looking forward to it. It’ll be busy but it will be good.”

The charity netball weekend will be held at Lifestyle Plus on Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22.

Team entry is $160 and all funds raised will go directly to the Variety 4WD Adventure.
