MILDURA Council has confirmed Mansell Reserve will need ongoing maintenance to ensure its courts are safe to use.
It is understood two of the 12 courts could not be used during the recent Mildura Spring Carnival Tournament due to them being deemed unsafe, which led to the draw needing to be reworked.
Mildura Council has confirmed Netball Victoria was commissioned to conduct a condition assessment on the courts during 2018 that required maintenance work in May and June this year.
“Council officers are continuing to monitor the cracks and recent repair works and will continue to do so to ensure the facility is kept in a playable condition,” a council spokesman said.
“Given the age of the facility, it is likely that it will require ongoing maintenance.”
Mildura Council has confirmed it is in talks with Mildura Netball Association, which predominantly uses the Mansell Reserve courts, about the possibility of it moving to the new Mildura South Sporting Precent (MSSP).
However, in light of the $10 million funding shortfall for MSSP and possible cuts to outside netball courts, the future of the association’s playing base is uncertain.
