CARDROSS is putting a call out for netball players for 2020 to help the club fill their quota of sides.
The Lions were unable to field an A Grade side in the Millewa Netball Association (MNA) for 2019 due to a lack of numbers, fielding A Reserve, B Grade and C Grade as well as juniors, with the MNA giving them some leeway.
But club netball delegate Irene Dalla Santa says for 2020 the club needed to come into line with the other association clubs.
“They granted us not to have A Grade this year, so we had from A Reserves down, but next year it’s compulsory,” Dalla Santa said.
“We need players even for C and B grade because we were running juniors through there.”
Junior players can play up a grade as many times as necessary, but for senior players there is a cap that means a player must stay in the higher grade if they go over it.
“For senior players, four games is the cut-off to play up a grade (in 2020), this year it was eight – that was another thing they granted us because they knew we were struggling,” Dalla Santa said.
She said Cardross provided a welcoming atmosphere for all its footballers and netballers.
“It’s a great club, I’ve been involved with four clubs and being the delegate they are supposed to come to me with any problems, I never had one all year,” she said.
“Even every girl’s speech (at the best and fairest) they all loved it and are coming back, it’s a happy and wonderful club.”
The club is also looking for a badged umpire to help mentor the club’s umpires in the future.
