SPECIAL fishing moments are those most cherished and the avid memory of my first giant Murray cod is etched in my mind as deeply as any cod-torn thumb. 

It was on the Murray River at Belsar Island more than two decades ago. 

It was early May and balmy warm as the head of a slow-building storm front began to roll in.
