SITTING around a campfire at the base camp for Hattah Desert Race volunteers, Matt Penny, Rodney Gebhart and Garry Minter are treasuring the calm before the storm.

Soon the trio will join a contingent of more than 320 volunteers, who lend vital support to the ongoing success of the Enduro motocross event - the largest of its kind in Australia.
