PREMIER Womens and junior cricket matches have been called off this weekend following record rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Saturday’s men’s matches remain in doubt.
Mildura received its highest daily rainfall for October in almost 30 years after it recorded more than 50mm on Wednesday morning, taking the monthly mark to over 70mm already.
The previous high mark in a 24-hour period was 43.2mm, on October 4, 1993.
The recent rainfall has resulted in wet grounds, resulting in some clubs resorting to pumps to remove excessive surface water.
Sunraysia Cricket Association decided to call off Premier Womens and Under 16 matches on Friday along with Saturday morning junior cricket after a further 11mm fell between 9am and 5pm Thursday.
A final decision for Saturday afternoon men's matches is likely to take place late Friday afternoon or on Saturday morning.
