City slickers take coveted double

THE best of Football Federation Sunraysia’s competitors credit their supportive club atmosphere in helping them achieve the league’s top gongs.

Mildura City’s Brandon Pollifrone and Lillee Driscoll won the S-League Senior Men and Senior Women best-and-fairest awards after stellar seasons by both players.

Pollifrone not only claimed the best and fairest, but also took out the leading goalscorer award, with 21 balls finding the back of the net throughout the season.

His deeds played a part in his team claiming the Senior Men’s premiership after an undefeated season.

Pollifrone said his best and fairest, the first he has won, was like the cherry on top for his season.

“After the season that we had as a team, winning everything and finishing undefeated, just to get it to top it all off felt pretty good,” he said.

The 24-year-old said he had always had a passion for the sport and had played with Mildura City since he was five or six years old.

“It feels good that we are getting a good momentum of a few titles in a row, and we just want to keep that up,” Pollifrone said.

“I love the game, always have, always will, I love my teammates, the club, it’s just a good thing to be a part of.”

Driscoll said she was “privileged and honoured” to receive the top honour this season, after also taking out the premiership and an undefeated season.

“I wasn’t expecting it honestly,” she said.

Although she is only 17, Driscoll was one of the older players in her young senior women’s side this season.

“It has been really good this year, especially to see the young girls developing,” she said.

“We’ve had new players come in that haven’t played before as well, which was really good to see.”

Both Driscoll and Pollifrone hope to return to the field for Mildura City next year.
