Double wins for Irymple Knights

IRYMPLE Knights had a great start to the Football Federation Sunraysia S-League after both senior sides recorded victories in the opening round of the campaign.

The senior men’s side had to hold on after an eventful start to their contest with Nichols Point to record a 2-1 win.

Knights got off to a flyer with Kieran Burrows finding the back of the net five minutes before Cruz Romeo doubled the advantage just eight minutes later.

Not to be outdone Pointers attacker Aphisit Morris scored in the 20th minute to drag the margin back.

After an eventful start to the game neither side could add to the scoreboard to give Knights first blood for the new campaign.

Three Colours and Mildura United, meanwhile, played out a 1-1 draw.

Colours opened the scoring just before half time through Oktay Samet but a converted penalty from United’s Kien Nguyen in the 56th minute levelled the scores.

The Knights Senior Women’s team also got the chocolates in their opening round fixture, earning the clean sheet as they won 2-0 over Nichols Point.

Strikes from Daisy Sheehan and Jasmine Balchin earned the girls in green and white their first victory of the year after recording two draws during the Round Robin Cup.

Round 2 of the S-League continues on Sunday at Soccer Park at the Old Aerodrome Ovals.
