MILDURA City will add another S-League title to the trophy cabinet after a 2-0 victory over Irymple Knights on Sunday gave them an unassailable lead.
A brace from striker Nick Woods either side of half-time was enough for the reigning champions to earn an all-important three points on a drizzly afternoon at Kenny Park, which will lead them to a third consecutive titles.
The sides went into the match knowing a win for either would secure them silverware for 2023, as a City win would give them a six-point break with one round remaining, while a Knights win would draw them level on points, but with a head-to-head advantage. The champions elect will be crowned after this Sunday’s final round of matches, where they have the bye, claiming their 10th Football Federation Sunraysia senior men’s title and their fourth in the past five completed seasons.
It will mark another double for Mildura City, who this year celebrated 50 years since their formation, following the senior women’s side already securing their title.
Irymple were hoping for their first S-League title since 2017.
