Knights blitz stuns Pointers

IRYMPLE Knights left Nichols Point stunned with a resounding 8-0 triumph in their round 7 S-League game on Sunday.

The Knights wasted no time asserting their dominance as Kieran Burrows opened the floodgates with a clinical finish just seven minutes into the game.

It was a sign of things to come as Chris Romeo, who had been experiencing a goal drought, broke free from his shackles and doubled the lead in the 16th minute.

From that point, the Knights never looked back, heading into half-time with a commanding 6-0 lead.

Romeo completed his hat-trick against Nichols Point for the second time this season while Burrows and Donald Jerry each finished the day with a brace.

Nichols Point did manage to stem the flow of goals in the second half, but it was too little too late as the Knights finished the day with a clean sheet, slotting eight past the Pointers.

In another highly anticipated match, the in-form Mildura City clashed with Mildura United.

While United had shown signs of improvement in recent matches, it was City who asserted their dominance as the game progressed throughout the afternoon.

The first 30 minutes was a tightly contested affair, with both sides battling it out in midfield.

However, it was City who managed to break the deadlock with a superb set-piece finish from the left boot of Meric Kiran, followed by a clinical penalty from Lukas Pedder.

This gave City a comfortable advantage as they headed into the half-time break.

The second half saw Mildura City seize control of the game, leaving Mildura United struggling to mount a comeback.

With City’s goal-scoring duo of Nicolas Woods and Dominic Ghidinelli watching from the sideline due to injury, it was Brandon Pollifrone who proved to be the second-half difference for City, finding the back of the net three times in just 10 minutes.

After spending 12 months on the sideline following an ACL reconstruction in 2022, Pollifrone’s clinical finishing and ability to exploit United’s defensive vulnerabilities ensured that City secured a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

In the senior women’s competition, Irymple Knights forfeited, giving the points to Mildura City.
