Goal-fests in women’s league

IRYMPLE Knights’ Byron Jolley fired his side to a 4-3 victory in the dying embers of their S-League contest against Three Colours.

Jolley secured his brace and the win in the 94th minute of an epic shootout to ensure Knights remain clear in second on the Senior Men’s ladder after nine rounds.

Irymple held a 2-0 half-time lead and looked to be in control after Chris Romeo and Jolley found the back of the net within a three-minute period, but that didn’t stop Colours from making a second-half charge.

Piers Cresp struck in the 57th minute before Andre Gallo evened the scores after 72 minutes. In a mad scramble late, both sides scored in the 89th minute through John Ayling and Stefan Knudsen.

More late drama was to follow when Jolley nailed his fourth goal of the season to secure the points.

It was the only Senior Men’s match of the weekend with Nichols Point forfeiting their contest against ladder leaders Mildura City.

It was a battle of the strikers in the Senior Women’s games, with Knights’ Argiro Karallis scoring six times and City’s Lillee Driscoll four times during their respective contests.

Karallis has taken her season tally to an astonishing 23 in six games after her day out against Northern Suns, in an encounter Irymple won 13-0.

It was a 7-0 half time lead for the victors with Karallis scoring five in the first 45 minutes, and Alexis Pantazopoulos also scoring a brace.

Mahalia Booth-Remmers would score two goals of her own in the second half.

Mildura City held a 2-1 lead at the break against Three Colours after the latter opened the scoring through Noelene Walker in the fourth minute before Driscoll and Macalia Britton returned fire.

Driscoll then completed a second half hat-trick to put the icing on the cake, her four goals taking her season tally to 11 in eight games.
