Sunraysia sports upgrades total $2 million

SUNRAYSIA welcomed more than $2 million in new sporting upgrades on Monday.

Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green officially opened the $246,846 soccer changerooms at Old Aerodrome Sporting Complex, for which $100,000 from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Ms Green said the building of the changerooms would help redress gender inequity in local soccer by providing a safe and private space for women, and girls to change and shower on game days.

“Female-friendly changerooms will not only be a major improvement for existing female players, but encourage further growth in female participation within Football Federation Sunraysia,” she said.

Ms Green also opened the “state-of-the-art” Kenny Park unisex female-friendly changeroom, costing $1,466,393.

The Female Friendly Facilities Fund provided $500,000 for the work.

The new building was part of the Kenny Park 2009-19 master plan.

Ms Green also opened two new Netball Victoria-standard courts at Henshilwood Recreation Reserve costing $328,674, including $100,000 from the Country Football Netball Program.

The installation means multiple Irymple Football Netball Club teams can train at the reserve on the same day and allows the club to host Sunraysia Football Netball League family days.

The club’s cricket net had a $152,526 upgrade, of which $100,000 came from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The net was replaced with a four-pitch net, allowing more player participation.

The move means all Irymple Cricket Club players will be able to train at the same time.
