Kaine and Jess are our medal champions

KAINE Stevens and Jess McNamara were the big winners at the SFNL’s senior football and netball awards night on Monday.

Ouyen United midfield gun Stevens was a runaway winner of the 2022 McLeod Medal, finishing with 22 votes, seven ahead of Wentworth defensive general Andy Wall.

Merbein’s Daniel Tung and Imperials veteran Brad Hards finished in equal third with 13 votes.

Mildura playing co-coach McNamara won the Horkings Medal for A-grade netball’s best-and-fairest player with 25 votes, edging Wentworth star shooter Amanda Edwards and Ouyen United defensive rock Catherine Brown by two votes.

Most of the unbeaten Roos’ starting side polled strongly, which took away votes away from Edwards, the league’s dominant goal scorer.

Star Roos defender Natalie Vercher finished with 19 votes and goal shooter Lizzy Rowe finished with 12.

Stephanie White also polled well for Merbein, finishing with 17 votes.
