Jack rises to ruck challenge

IRYMPLE player Jack Chiswell is already proving handy to his side after just two games back on the field.

Selected as round 6’s Mildura & District Real Estate Rising Star, Chiswell said he was glad he could play so well after only making his return in round 5 of the SFNL season.

Chiswell stood out during Irymple’s winning game against Merbein last Saturday, where he kicked his first goal.

“It was good to get a win,” he said.

“Obviously my first game was a week ago and we got pumped by Wentworth, so it was very good to get a win and kick my first goal, which I was happy with.”

Chiswell said he had been playing footy on and off for the last few years, but was happy to finally be back into a weekly football routine.

“I’m just finally getting back into a routine of playing footy frequently in the senior side,” he said.

“I was away last year in Adelaide and I just moved back here at the start of the year, doing university online, so I’m back to my local club, which I am loving.”

Chiswell said he had moved from forward to ruck at the Swallows and was hoping to improve in the position as he progressed through the season.

“I played all my juniors in forward so I am still learning the ruck craft sort of thing,” he said.

“But it is handy with blokes like (Adam Luitjes) and (William Callow) giving me tips.

“My main focus is just trying to get better in the ruck.”

Chiswell said he was glad to be back and playing for Irymple.

“It’s awesome, I have been at this club forever and it is good being with mates and playing with blokes that coached me when I was young,” he said.

As this week’s Mildura & District Real Estate Rising Star, Chiswell will receive $50 from Mildura & District Real Estate, 62-64 Commercial Street, Merbein.
