ROBINVALE Euston held on to win their Under-18 contest against South Mildura by the barest of margins.
The Eagles clung to a one-point lead at the final change, but with both sides kicking 2.1, the final buffer remained the same in an epic encounter, finishing 7.7.49 to 7.6.48.
Albeit having played more games, Robinvale Euston sit second on the ladder, finding themselves two wins ahead of Irymple and Merbein.
The loss has seen the Bulldogs drop to fifth after Merbein claimed victory this week. Their task doesn’t get much easier when they face all-conquering Mildura next week.
Dominic Vespucci (Eagles) and Ethan Woods (Bulldogs) were the only multiple goal-kickers in the arm wrestle of a contest.
Massimo Tassone and Marc Jealous were named as better players for the Eagles, while Joseph Pollifrone and Joseph Ryan were among South’s top performers.
A five-goal haul from Raiden Wakefield helped push Merbein into the top four as they grabbed a 57-point win over Ouyen United, 11.5.71 to 2.2.14.
In a low scoring first half, the Magpies held just a 13-point lead at main break, but an eight goal to one second half saw them fly away from the Kangas.
Lachlan McCarty also kicked two goals for the Pies, with Harrison Isaacs among the best again. Sam Alofi and Nate Bull were also good.
Kanga goal-kickers Darcy Cresp and Darcy Kerr performed well along with Ethan Munro.
The load was shared for Mildura with 10 individuals goal-kickers hitting the scoreboard as the Demons had a 137-point win over Wentworth.
Lachlan Clarke and Jesse Gosman each kicked four, and Jake Harvey and Jack Norton three as the home side went on to win 22.12.144 to 1.1.7.
It was a tough day at the office for the Roos with sole goal-kicker Jack Gates and Cain Berryman among their better performers.
