Eagles injury woes

ROBINVALE Euston boom recruit Brodie Hodson is likely out for the remainder of the 2021 Sunraysia Football and Netball League (SFNL) season after breaking his ankle last week.

The 2014 McLeod Medal winner joined the Eagles from Tooleybuc-Manangatang this season, however his campaign looks to have come to a halt after suffering the injury against South Mildura on Saturday.

An injury curse appears to be hovering over John James Oval, with Joe Madio having broken his ankle the week before , and injury-plagued Dan Iudica having further complications with a knee.

Since being one of the youngest members of the Eagle’s 2010 premiership, Iudica has had a horror run with injuries having had multiple knee surgeries.

Robinvale Euston coach Andrew Richardson has lamented the injury woes, but said there is better news around the corner.

Ruckman Ethan Gill, the 2018 best-and-fairest winner is entering a full training schedule after knee issues and will likely return after the interleague break in two weeks, while utilities Jake Calvert and Travis Bussell are also not far away from returning.

The injuries have come at a terrible time for the Eagles, who face an undefeated Imperials on Saturday, but Richardson said some restructuring of the line-up could hopefully help them win their second game.

“Brodie’s was a clean break. It’s just one of those things in footy,” Richardson said.

“Joey had surgery (Wednesday) so it will be a matter of seeing how he recovers, but it’s more unlikely than likely he’ll play again this season.

“I feel for Danny, he’s had some terrible luck with injuries.

“It’s just one of those things. It’s a brutal game and sometimes the luck just doesn’t go your way. We could do with some more in our favour.”
