Sunraysia wrap: Irymple advance to preliminary final, ending Robinvale-Euston’s season

REIGNING premiers Irymple proved too strong for Robinvale-Euston in today’s first semi-final, securing a 36-point win and a ticket to the preliminary final in a fortnight’s time.

The Swallows opened with the only two goals of the first quarter and led by 12 at the main break, with both sides a little wayward (4.7 to 2.7).

A dominant third term, which saw the Swallows add six goals to just one from the Eagles, proved consequential.

Irymple ran out 12.11 (83) to 6.11 (47) winners.

The Swallows will play the loser of next week’s second semi-final between Ouyen United and Red Cliffs on September 15 for a spot in the grand final.

Earlier in the day in reserves, Red Cliffs toppled Robinvale-Euston, 10.8 (58) to 8.4 (52).

Mildura’s Under 18s proved too good for Imperials with a 13.11 (89) to 5.6 (36) win.

In A Grade netball, Merbein progressed to the preliminary final with a 42-34 win over Irymple.

Mildura advanced in B Grade thanks to a narrow 28-26 win against Merbein.

C Grade’s first semi was taken out by Merbein in another close one, 41-38 against Mildura.

In C Reserve, Imperials got the better of Red Cliffs, 40-33.

Imperials had a big win in 17 & Under Division 1, 53-26.

Mildura won 41-38 in 17 & Under Division 2, against Wentworth.
