Jarrod Brander learns from tough West Coast Eagles debut

LINING up against veteran defender Heath Grundy in his 250th game for an in-form Sydney Swans on their home ground is about as testing an AFL debut imaginable.

But while young West Coast forward Jarrod Brander admits he got exposed at times in his baptism of fire last Friday night, he won’t soon forget the experience and learnt plenty from it.

The 19-year-old, who played his junior football at Wentworth and was selected by the Eagles with pick 13 in the national draft last November, said it was “a special moment” to debut in a top-four clash at the SCG.
