Hawkish about Jaeger O’Meara: Vice-captain backs gun midfielder

OPPOSITION teams beware, Hawthorn are preparing to launch a Jaeger bomb.

Blue-chip former Gold Coast recruit Jaeger O’Meara, who managed only six games in his debut year with the Hawks in 2017 due to ongoing knee issues, set the AFL club’s intraclub match on Friday night alight with 33 touches, seven marks, six clearances and a goal.

That performance and O’Meara’s pre-season to date had Hawks vice-captain Isaac Smith bullish on the 2013 AFL Rising Star winner’s prospects.

“I think everyone knows why we picked him up, there’s probably 17 other clubs going after him — he’s a pretty special talent,” Smith said from the club’s super clinic at Sarah Oval in Mildura yesterday.
