Noonan works for birthday gift

NOBODY could begrudge Imperials young gun Jack Noonan for enjoying a cold beverage after his side’s win over Robinvale/Euston at City Oval.

Noonan, who turned 18 on Saturday, marked the milestone with a career-best three-goal haul in just his seventh senior game.

If the coming-of-age was well celebrated after the siren, there was less discussion of it beforehand as Imperials prepared for a match likely to be decisive for finals calculations come the end of the home-and-away season.

“They just said happy birthday to me before the game and ‘oh yeah, kick a couple of goals for your birthday’ so I tried my best,” Noonan said.
