Boat House sells, so what will become of it?

MILDURA’S so-called Boat House has been sold.

The two-storey, mid-twentieth century Cureton Avenue home, which many people believe looks like a boat, was passed in at auction at $950,000 on Saturday, but a sale for $1 million was negotiated shortly after.

Tierney Real Estate director Ryan Tierney said the property had been bought by a Sunraysia couple who were planning its renovation.

“The property sold for one million dollars with a couple of local business owners fighting it out,” he said.

“(The buyers) have decided to purchase the property and rejuvenate it to its former glory.”

Mr Tierney said many would be glad to hear it was staying in local hands.

“Lots of the feedback from people was ‘we would hate to see it knocked down or subdivided’,” he said.

“There will be a lot of people that know the property and love it, and will be thrilled to hear it will be rejuvenated to its former glory and continue to be one of the most iconic properties in Mildura’s real estate market.”

The property, which was on the market for about a month, drew interest from all around Australia, with one Sydney investor at the auction keen to buy.

“From the start we had a tremendous campaign, with thousands and thousands of views on Realestate.com and Domain, and also social media networks as well,” Mr Tierney said.

“All and all from the open houses and private inspections there would’ve been north of 200 people in total, which is very good numbers, and on the day of the auction itself we had a big crowd and big turn out, with close to 100 people on site.”

Mr Tierney said the house would likely be restored over the next year or so.

He said he was thankful for the opportunity to auction off the well-known property.

“We are grateful that the vendors close Tierney Real Estate to conduct the sale,” he said.

“To associate our brand with one of the most iconic properties in the district we were very humbled and proud of that.”
