Voters turn out for pre-poll

MORE than 4100 Mallee voters could not wait to cast their vote for the Federal election, and made their decision on day one of early voting.

A total of 4162 voters in the Mallee showed up to one of the eight available early voting centres and had their say.

Across the two early voting centres in Mildura, at the Mildura Senior Citizens Centre and at 116 Eighth Street, 1777 Mallee voters cast their votes on Tuesday.

Another 79 voters from Farrer electorate came to the Mildura Seniors Citizens Centre to cast their vote on the opening pre-poll day.

The pre-poll voting centre at the Senior Citizens Centre proved the most popular in Mallee on the opening day, as 945 voters came through, followed by 832 at the Eighth Street location and 805 at a pre-poll centre in Horsham.

In Swan Hill, 598 people took the opportunity to vote early on day one of pre-poll.

The most visited polling booth in regional Victoria was in Warrnambool, where there is expected to be a tight contest for the seat of Wannon, currently held by Liberal MP Dan Tehan.

On the first day of pre poll, 542,143 Australians cast their vote.

On Wednesday, another 915 people in Mallee voted at the Eighth Street location, and 1063 Mallee voters and 127 Farrer voters made their choices at the Senior Citizens Centre.
