FORMER Mildura State MP Ali Cupper has not ruled out taking a shot at reviving her political career in local government at the October 2024 election.
Ms Cupper was a councillor and deputy mayor before she was elected as the Member for Mildura at the 2018 state election.
“It’s very tempting (to run again),” she said this week.
“There’s only one reason I left council the first time around, and that’s because I won the state seat in 2018.
“I loved being a councillor.
“It is such an important and influential forum for decision-making and for improving the community.”
Ms Cupper was narrowly beaten by the Nationals’ candidate, Jade Benham, at the 2022 state election, despite having a strong track record of delivering major projects for the electorate as an Independent MP.
This included $10 million for Stage 2 of the Mildura Sporting Precinct project.
She now runs her own business which specialises in family law.
While Ms Cupper weighs up whether to contest the next local government election, a Greens candidate who was close to gaining a berth at the last council poll in 2020 is putting her hand up to run again.
Katie Clements said she would be running for a spot on the nine-member council but she was undecided about which ward to contest at the October 26 poll.
