VOTING isn’t finished and so Jade Benham is yet to claim an election victory in the seat of Mildura, but her probable new boss has effectively done that for her.
Ms Benham has dropped into what’s also probably her new workplace, Parliament House in Melbourne, where she posed with Mr Walsh and Nationals MPs for a photo the leader then posted on Twitter.
In his post, Mr Walsh said it was “fantastic to welcome Annabelle Cleeland, Jade Benham, Kim O’Keefe, Martin Cameron and Gaelle Broad to The Nationals party room” following Saturday’s state election, which was overall resoundingly lost by the Liberal-Nationals coalition.
Ms Benham, who appears to have defeated sitting independent MP Ali Cupper on votes counted so far, has said she would await official confirmation before claiming victory in Mildura. Ms Cupper has also said she will wait for the official result before conceding, although she has also acknowledged the liklihood that she has lost.
Confirmation of the Mildura result may not come until next week.
