THE Victorian Government has been slammed for a “rinse and repeat” of last year’s “crippling, unfair” lockdowns on regional and rural communities.
Member for Mildura Anne Webster said the Andrews Government should be taking a leaf out of the New South Wales playbook of “targeted, locally based” lockdowns of COVID-19 hot spots.
“It is outrageous that the good people of Sunraysia are treated as though we live in Footscray or Port Melbourne,” Dr Webster said yesterday.
“This is rinse and repeat of what we had last year. These lockdowns impact our communities in an unfathomable way, where the problem has been in the city and not the regions.
“Initially I was concerned that one of the exposure sites was at Cohuna, but there’s been no community spread from that event (footy match) last Saturday.
“There can be no justification now for this extreme lockdown in our regional and border communities.”

Dr Webster said the latest statewide seven-day lockdown was “convenient” for those in charge at Spring Street.
“It would be great if the Victorian Government could differentiate between Melbourne and regional centres,” the Nationals MP said.
