The government on Tuesday announced it would contribute $4.2 million in 2020-21 as part of a $17.1 million commitment for the long-awaited sealing of Pooncarie Road.
The upgrade was expected to begin in the first half of next year and be finished by mid-2022.
The state’s commitment will form part of a $9.2 million investment by the NSW and federal governments to finally complete the project.
Central Darling Shire had already secured $25 million from the Federal and NSW governments to seal 70km of the road in that municipality, leaving 26.5km of dirt road to Pooncarie, in Wentworth Shire, unfunded.
The government said it would also provide $4.2 million in 2020-21 as part of a $8.4 million project for the aerodrome.
The government had previously committed to the project, which will seal and extend the runway from 1100 metres to 1400 metres, improving its capacity to take on small passenger planes.
