MP asks for Murray Basin Rail Project response

MEMBER for Northern Victoria Tania Maxwell has co-written a joint letter to Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack seeking advice on the future of the Murray Basin Rail Project.

Victorian Minister for Rail Infrastructure Jacinta Allan recently sent the revised business case for the project to Mr McCormack in his role as Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.

Stakeholders continue to be frustrated by delays and the lack of consultation in revising the business case and are concerned it will disastrously reduce the size and scope of the project.

Ms Maxwell said she and Western Victoria colleague Stuart Grimley asked the Federal Government when the response to the business case would be announced and confirmation of the support for the completion of the project to its original scope.

“The Murray Basin Rail Project is extremely important to northern and western Victoria and has the capacity to deliver economic growth and boost productivity,” Ms Maxwell said.

“With a lack of transparency around the revision of the business case, stakeholders continue to be concerned that the project will be watered down or continue to be put on the back burner.”
