THE latest funding allocation for the Mildura South Regional Sports Precinct (MSRSP) shows the project is still on the Victorian Government’s radar, Member for Mildura Ali Cupper says.
The project was allocated $750,000 through the 2020-21 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund this week.
Ms Cupper welcomed the funding but said the fight for the remaining $10 million needed to complete the project in full continued.
“We always knew it would be difficult for the full $10 million to come from the latest round of the Sports Infrastructure Fund given the number of applications from around the state,” she said.
“But it does show the government knows the importance of the MSRSP and I am hopeful the $10 million needed will come in the 2020 budget.
“We had hoped that we’d have an answer on the $10 million by now, but frustratingly the wait continues due to the rescheduling of the State budget from May to October as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Ms Cupper said she was continuing to lobby the government for the remaining funding needed to complete the $41 million project through her #gameon project.
“I have made it clear to Premier Daniel Andrews and the Victorian Government that they need to provide $10 million more to even the score and I won’t rest until the announcement is made that the funding has been secured,” she said.
