MEMBER for Mildura Ali Cupper has decided against sitting in Parliament this week, due to the coronavirus risk.
Ms Cupper said she had been given advice from Leader of the Victorian House Jacinta Allan to be vigilant in making a decision.
“I’m in an electorate at the moment where there are no cases and I have daily contact with three people who are in a highly vulnerable cohort,” she said.
“I am the only MP bar maybe one other who travels by plane and has to travel through an international airport.”
There is still a possibility MPs will be able to take part in the Thursday afternoon vote remotely.
Ms Cupper said she felt it would be the right thing to do for the Mildura electorate.
“To show leadership, it would be hypocritical of me if I was telling everyone to avoid non-essential events and then go somewhere with all of those risk factors,” she said.
“After this sitting we we have a break until May for the budget so at least that gives us a little bit of breathing space.”
