LETTER: Money lies at the end of the federal election

The Mallee electorate, particularly, the Sunraysia end, has a number of independent candidates complaining about their community being given funding grants announced by Federal Government ministers (of the National Party) at election time.

One of the more vocal candidates Mildura’s Deputy Mayor, Cr Jason Modica, who is still on the MRCC payroll. The same councillor had previously supported the Mildura Future Ready campaign which was based on chasing grants at election times, yet now complains about his community being given those grants when they are announced. Hypocritical!

Then we have the Sunraysia Daily editor, Jason Shields asking what can The Nationals’ candidate Anne Webster deliver after the election, without mentioning that the state independent MP Ali Cupper has not delivered post the Victorian state election, despite all her talk.

I think it’s obvious Anne Webster will deliver for our community, she has been lobbying government ministers for years for the Zoe Support organisation and was awarded Citizen Of The Year by the Mildura Rural City Council.

What better ambassador for our region? The Nationals chose her for good reason.

The Federal Coalition continues to deliver into the election period for seats they hold, just as the Victorian Labor Government deliver to seats they hold.

The Mallee needs better than independent representatives that need to beg, borrow or steal to get a dollar for their electorates. Voting for major parties brings funding, but more importantly, it brings sensible legislation that sees the Mallee experience financial boom with very low unemployment and money pouring into the region through investment and productivity.

People need to vote carefully and sensibly as they have much to lose if they make a poor choice.
