A MILDURA man escalated a long-running neighbourhood spat by taking part in a "somewhat cowardly assault", a court has been told.

The Mildura Magistrates' Court heard the victim had been at home with his partner on the evening of January 10 last year listening to music when a man at a neighbouring property began throwing bottlecaps over the fence and yelling out to the pair.
