FORMER Mildura man John Torney has been charged with negligent manslaughter in relation to the death of 49-year-old Cobram woman Emma Bates.

Mr Torney, 40, appeared in Shepparton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday via video link, eight months after he was first charged regarding the matter.
