A DRIVER whose car crashed near a notorious intersection outside of Red Cliffs may have been trying to avoid a kangaroo.

The cause of the pre-dawn, single-car accident at the intersection of the Calder Highway and Belar Avenue Extension has not been confirmed, but there have been reports that an animal was involved.

Police and ambulance were called to the intersection at 5.16am, Sunday.
