A MILDURA man who treated his elderly mother like his "prisoner", beating and holding her hostage, will be eligible for parole in just over a year.

The accused, who cannot be named, was sentenced to three years and nine months in jail, with a non-parole period of two years and three months, before the County Court on Wednesday.

He has already served 363 days on remand.
