Body found in Murray River in Mildura

THE body of an elderly man, who went missing almost six weeks ago, has been discovered near Apex Park in Mildura.

Mildura police inspector Michelle Young said Victoria and New South Wales police located Joseph McCrann deceased in the Murray River in the vicinity of Apex Park, Mildura, on Friday morning.

"Although it's heartbreaking for family and friends when one dies, I know that it will bring comfort to Mr McCrann's loved ones and to the community of Mildura knowing that he has been located," Inspector Young said.

The 94-year-old was last seen on Sunday, June 19 and the following day police found his abandoned mobility scooter at the edge of the river near Lock 11.

Victoria and NSW police, along with members of the State Emergency Service, carried out an extensive land and water search, with police divers scouring the river for three days without any findings.

"I'd like to thank our local police members from Victoria and New South Wales in recovering Mr McCrann and our community who I know have been concerned and have also been looking for Mr McCrann to enable him to rest in peace," Inspector Young said.
